Slack Space had some fantastic news last week! We have been invited to become fellows of the Royal Society of Arts in recognition of our outstanding contribution to promoting the arts at a community level and bringing both art and performance into empty, disused places.

Coordinator, Abigail Cheverst, received a personal letter from the Trustees of the Royal Society inviting Slack Space to become a Fellow “in light of your leading role supporting and developing the arts in Colchester through the Slack Space project and following your extensive success with utilising space and talent.”

The Royal Society of Arts was given a Royal Charter in 1847. For over 250 years it has been a cradle of enlightenment thinking and a force for social progress. Its approach is multi-disciplinary, politically independent and combines cutting edge research and policy development with practical action. Famous fellows of the Royal Society include Charles Dickens, William Morris, Samuel Johnston, Karl Marx and Peter Ustinov.
